Hotel was perfect. Lovely spacious room with a good-sized bathroom. Breakfast was excellent - full English and continental available - with the added bonus that it was available until 11.00 on Sat and Sun. (Until 10.30 other days). Room was comfy and quiet, though possibly because ours faced onto the internal courtyard rather than onto the busy Jan 13 boulevard that runs down one side of the hotel.
Hotel has a perfect location - on the edge of the old town but just across the road from the main station, shopping centre and the amazing market.
Top Tip
Make sure you go to the market - talk about the land of plenty. Great place for bargains.
Take a 10-minute bus/tram ride to the Lido centre for ice-skating and tasty but inexpensive food.

Staff in hotel appeared very frosty and disinterested but soon discovered that its not just the hotel, most latvian people dont smile, say hello or say please or thankyou. The tourist board needs a word with them!! The Metropole is just on the edge of the old town and is ideal for exploring Riga. Also the train station is right across the road and has a good tourist info desk.
Breakfast is excellent and the one evening meal we had in the restaurant was spot on.
Top Tip
Dont go near the steak haus places (total rip off) ie one latt (£1.20) for a wee bit of ketchup for my chips???

Great location, clean and friendly staff.
we needed a triple room and the extra bed was just a pull out bed which i didn't have to sleep in so be aware of that if you book a triple room.
Try to ask for a rear room as the trams can be noisy 1st thing in the morning but on the whole i would recommend this hotel.
Top Tip
for the best view in town go for a drink in the sky-line bar of the royal latvia hotel......not to be missed.

Excellent location, lovely hotel, would not hesitate to recommend to others travelling to Riga.
Top Tip
Pick up copy of Riga in your pocket - very useful. Don't miss Art Nouvea District and panoramic tour to the roof of Academy of Science building, just behind the market.

Very nice stay..large room, very soft large double bed. Courteous, helpful staff. We stayed on the courtyard side which was quiet.

The Old Town area is a real treat. Excellent restaurants, like the Dome steak house was very very good.

Hotel and service excellent, but bed left unmade and bucket of cleaning materials left in room. Did not spoilt my stay, however.
Top Tip
Right on the edge of the old town and near nice park. Museum of the Occupation of Latvia well worth a visit. If hoping to do bus tour of Riga (starting in front of Opera House), turn up in good time - small bus which fills up quickly.
